Chris's artist statement

I am a painter who has been working with clay for the last 20+ years. I studied Fine Arts at R.M.I.T. and V.C.A. and have exhibited paintings for a number of years. Presently I am teaching painting and drawing part-time at C.A.E. and spend the rest of my time in my ceramic studio in Eltham.

I initially became involved in ceramics by making garden pottery as a part-time job while I studied. Since then I have developed a love for the process of making clay pieces and painting on three-dimensional forms. I have made a number of large tile murals where I also combine these aspects of my work. I use a jig and jolley with the shapes that I have designed and made, and then alter and add to them by hand.
